How to Prepare a Romantic Apartment Dinner for Your Loved One

A romantic apartment dinner can be the perfect surprise for your significant other when he arrives home from work or from an active day. Even with the sometimes limited kitchen and dining areas within apartments, it’s possible to create the ambiance for a night of fine dining on home cooking and a night of romance.

Planning Considerations

You want to have romance on your mind when you go to the store. instead of a traditional grocery store, try going to a store that also offers apartment accents, such as a Super Target. You’ll want to pick up candles, and you may opt to perhaps pick up soft-light bulbs to temporarily replace the normal ones in the dining area and living room. To make the evening especially romantic, choose your loved one’s favorite dinner and dessert, or you may choose the dinner that you had on your first date or at a significant moment.

Unique Romantic Dinner Themes

For a fun and romantic dinner, theme the evening to something that means a lot to your special someone. If there’s a memory from childhood that he especially holds dear that centers around a meal, try to get the exact recipe from his mother. If there is a favorite romantic movie that she enjoys, re-create the romantic dinner, including the dishes from the night. You may consider ordering take-out and heating it as he arrives home, providing all of its delectable smells, yet without a lot of the prep work. This is a great idea if there’s a favorite restaurant that you don’t have a chance to get to very often.

Creating Ambiance

Fill the apartment with your loved one’s favorite smells, starting an hour to thirty minutes before he arrives home. You want the smells to abound throughout the apartment. You may want to light candles, incense or set out other types of scents. Go with what is romantic and what will be appreciated. If the smells from the kitchen work best for romance for the two of you, let the food smells do the trick.

Light candles all over the room. They should be placed on the mantle and all over the room. Eating by candlelight is only romantic if you can also see to eat, so make sure that the lighting is romantic, yet plentiful. Place comfortable pillows on the chairs of your dining table, set the table with a romantic centerpiece and larger candles, and play romantic music in the background. Because it is in an apartment, though, keep the volume at a considerate level, especially if it’s a late night dinner.

Thoughtful Touches

Place a present by where your loved one is to be seated. You don’t have to go crazy spending a lot of money. Simply give something that you know that your loved one has been wanting, something thoughtful that shows your love. If you can’t afford a material present, create a homemade book of love coupons, little favors that you promise to do, such as go see that action adventure movie or give a foot massage.

Last Steps to Setting the Scene for a Romantic Apartment Dinner

After the food is prepared and the table is set, prepare yourself for the dinner. Wear something romantic and comfortable. It can even be a simple negligee. You’ll also want to lay out something romantic and comfortable for your loved one to wear, so that you both can be comfortable and equally enjoy the romantic evening.
