Finding Studio Apartments for Rent

Finding studio apartments for rent is a cost effective option for singles and couples. There are many ways you can find one for rent, and you might even find a furnished apartment. Here’s how.

Spread the Word

Someone at work or school may know of a homeowner who owns a studio apartment. Often, these are reserved for guests and family members visiting from out of town. However, during tough economic times, some homeowners are looking for ways to earn additional money and may be very open to renting their apartment to you. They may not have even thought about the option, and you may be the perfect opportunity for them. The benefit of renting apartments in this scenario is that they’re already furnished to accommodate guests. Tell everyone you know about your hunt for a studio apartment and don’t assume that a particular person in your circle won’t know of any. Ask them to spread the word too, and you might get offers to check out a few apartments.

Ask Your Current Landlord

If you have an amicable relationship with your landlord, and he knows you’re leaving, tell him you’re looking for a studio apartment. Landlords know other landlords. Perhaps he knows of one for rent, or at least knows other landlords who own some. The best part is your landlord can provide a reference and personal recommendation, encouraging a potential landlord to rent to you. If that’s the case, you’ll be in a great position to negotiate lease terms that will benefit you as a tenant.

Check Apartments Near College Campuses

Some homeowners with studio apartments on their property earn extra income by renting to college students. If you’re a student, they’ll want to talk with you about their apartment. These are often not furnished apartments because homeowners are afraid that students will wreck their furniture. However, if you’ve got your own furniture, that’s not a problem. You can track down these apartments by checking out the bulletin boards on campus, such as at the student union hall. Also, watch for flyers on telephone poles on college campuses.

Watch for Ads at the Supermarket

Another spot to watch for flyers is at the supermarket or your favorite grocery store. Every time you’re there, be sure to check the bulletin board for apartments for rent. Often a landlord will leave a general flyer with strips to tear off a phone number. The competition for renting apartments can get fierce, so if you have a cell phone, stop what you’re doing and call right away.

Check the Classifieds

You can check the classifieds in your local newspaper, either by buying one or checking online. Keep in mind that the landlord is paying for advertising and so the rent may be higher than if you were to find an apartment using the other methods discussed above.

Schedule time each day to search the studio apartments for rent. You might have to turn over every rock to find one, but keep at it.
