in Decorating on by

Dining room decorating from scratch can be challenging. Dining room furniture can be expensive, and it is easy to go over budget. However, follow these guidelines, and you will have a picture perfect dining room for under $500.

1 – A Dining Room Table Doesn’t Have to be a Dining Room Table

If you have already shopped the yard sale circuit, and checked out a few thrift stores without success, a kitchen table is a great option. Kitchen tables are less expensive than dining room tables, but serve the same purpose. Browse around on the Internet, and you are sure to find a retailer that sells kitchen tables for under $100.

2 -Purchase Plain Chairs

When dining room decorating, it is easy to spend a lot on the chairs. Often, the chairs cost the same, if not more, than the table. Also, it is difficult to find a set of chairs at yard sales and thrift stores. Check out local discount stores and online retailers. Look for plain chairs. You can surely find sets of two for roughly $50. Purchase two sets even if you live alone. Four chairs should provide adequate seating if you have friends over and gives a finished look to the table. Purchasing the two sets will cost you about $100, bringing the total spent to $200.

3 – Paint is Plenty

The best way to give your dining area a new look is by painting it. Changing the paint color can help define your style and will give the room a different feel. Your paint color will also help to coordinate and tie in all of the other dining room decor you will be purchasing. Paint and paint supplies will cost you about $75. Our total is now $275.

4 – Dollar Stores are your Friends

When dining room decorating, or decorating any room for that matter, dollar stores are great! Visit your local store, and purchase a vase and some colored glass pebbles. You’ll see why in the next step. Also purchase tableware in sets of four to be displayed on your new table, and four chair cushions to spruce up your new chairs. You shouldn’t spend more than $50, bringing the total to $325.

5- Get Crafty

Visit a craft store and make an arrangement of artificial flowers. Set the flowers in the vase, and pour in the pebbles to keep them in place. Center the arrangement on your new table. The flowers should cost you no more than $25. Our total is now $350.

6- Treat your Windows

Window treatments can pull a room together. Dining room decorating is no exception, and they can be quite affordable. You can find stylish window treatments at discount home stores for around $15 each. If you have two windows that’s only $30, bringing the total to $380.

7- Finishing Touches

While you’re at that home store, check out their wall decorations. Choose one large decoration, and center it on your wall. Wall decorations can range in price, depending upon what it is, but you’ve got $120 left to spend, which is more than enough! Use the extra cash to make your first meal in your new dining room.
