Cheap Decorating Ideas for the Living Room

Looking for cheap decorating ideas? Have you moved into a new apartment or just want to redecorate your living room without breaking the bank? There are many ways to make a statement without spending a lot of money by being resourceful and creative. While you shop, be sure to check stores for the latest deals, clearance items and coupons. Here are a couple of ideas that will transform your living room and keep you within your budget.

Make a Statement on Wall

Decorating your wall gives your room one dominant piece and focal point. There are several ways to enhance your wall for cheap.

Covering a piece of canvas in decorative paper or fabric allows you to customize your wall art and is economical. Canvas can be found at any art or craft store. Most of these stores have regular coupons off of one item, so it is possible to not pay full price.  There are several types of decorative papers that have unique textures and dimension that can be purchased by the sheet. You can also change out the paper and fabric styles without paying a lot.

You can create an interesting display with picture frames. Stores like Ikea or Pottery Barn have basic colors and shapes that allow you to create a visually pleasing display. Aside from your own pictures, postcards or colored paper work well. A good place to find these items is at Bookstores like Barnes and Noble and Borders. They usually have a clearance section with different types of themed books so you can cut out the pages to be used in your frames.

Use Accent Pieces to Liven Up Your Living Room

There are many accessories that don’t cost a lot. Vases can be both functional and decorative, but can also add flavor and personality to your living room.  Pottery barn has an excellent assortment of clear vases that can be filled with flowers, a candle, sand or rocks. You should be able to get these items for under $30. If your budget is really small, try reusing items you already have. Wine bottles, olive oil canisters and alcohol bottles can be used as a decorative vase and won’t cost you anything. You can mix items you already own to you vase selection. For example, but a set of books underneath a vase to showoff your personality.

Another affordable accessory is bamboo. Bamboo can come dried or alive. You can find both options at your local plant store or nursery. Large bamboo looks best in a large vase and can be mixed in with real flowers.  Candles always make a statement and come in various shapes, sizes and colors and will work in harmony with your other decorations.

There are several ways to decorate a living room without spending too much money. Creating a dominant key piece will help you better accessorize the rest of the room. After you’ve figured out your key piece, then you will be able to focus on the accents. Exploring everything from vases, to candles infuse personality and will allow you to design for less.
