7 Easy Ways to Improve Your Apartment in a Weekend

Time is a precious commodity everyone wishes they had more of. And while there’s no way to increase the number of days in a week, there are lots of ways to transform and improve your space fast. Why not start by tackling one of these easy weekend projects?

Rearrange Your Furniture

Rearranging your furniture is one of the easiest ways to quickly improve your apartment. It’s a therapeutic option that breathes new life into your living space without taking too much of your time. You can get the best out of it by planning out a new layout beforehand. This will give you a more concrete idea of how you’ll arrange all the pieces before getting started with the actual moving process. Rearranging your furniture will create a new flow in your space that can make the whole unit feel bigger. On the other hand, badly organized furniture can lead to congestion that makes your living room feel cramped and stuffy.

Spruce Up Your Corners

Corners are commonly overlooked when it comes to interior design. While working on the other areas in your apartment, consider cozying up the corners, too. You don’t have to do major upgrades on them, of course. It can be as simple as introducing a floor lamp or a house plant. If your apartment is big enough, you can even consider adding a small reading nook in one corner. Finish it all off with a nice side table and chair. It’s important to try out items on the taller side because shorter pieces can often leave the space feeling stunted. Hanging plants and indoor trees are both excellent options for filling the vertical spaces in a corner.

Split Up the Space

Stylish, cozy area rugs like this one are great for delineating certain parts of an open-plan apartment.

If your apartment is small and has an open floor plan, you should consider using an area rug to separate your “room” spaces. In most cases, the rug closest to your couch is where most social activities take place. Similarly, the rug by your bed divides up the boundaries in your bedroom. You can even use this method to create more dividers, if you really fancy delineated spaces. A well-divided apartment has a clear structure to it that helps improve its quality (and makes it much easier for you to arrange various items in).

Swap Out Your Throw Pillows

This is one of the oldest but most effective methods for improving the quality of an apartment. As much as simply replacing old furnishings can seem expensive, it’d sometimes the best way to improve your living room. New throw pillows can completely transform the feel of your home. The key to an ideal set is variety in both size and texture and high-quality materials. If possible, you can also opt to sew them yourself – just come up with a fun design that matches the theme of your apartment. Getting a high-quality material will also help significantly. Upon getting a new set of throw pillows, you should ensure your couches are also in good condition by thoroughly cleaning them.

Choose Patterns and Colors Carefully

Create a consistent color scheme by sticking with similar themes or shades throughout all the rooms in your home. For instance, if your throw pillows have silver threading, you can match them up with a slate shower curtain in the bathroom. On the other hand, the wood grain of your nightstand can combine well with the coffee table in your living room. Creating little patches like this in your apartment will make everything feel whole and connected. This creates a relaxing and cozy space, not to mention one thats looks and feels neater and more organized. Best of all, getting this done only needs a few hours of your time.

Wash Your Beddings Thoroughly

Regularly washing your bedding gives your whole bed a new feeling that contributes to the general improvement of your apartment. Just be sure to take things a step further than just washing your duvet cover and sheets. Instead, remove the mattress cover and pillow covers and give them a good wash, too. If you’re able to, washing your pillows and comforter will also go a really long ways towards making your sleeping space feel good as new. Just follow the washing instructions for everything and allow it all to dry thoroughly before putting it back on the bed. You can even opt to clean your mattress if you find it necessary.

Upgrade Your Bedding

Fresh bedding like this goes a long way towards transforming the look and feel of your bedroom.

As good as washing your bedding can be, nothing beats buying a nice new set. Let’s be honest: all of us could stand to upgrade our bedding from time to time, especially when it wears out. That’s because even small changes to our sleeping environments significantly change the way we sleep – and no one wants to be bogged down by a restless night of bad sleep. When getting new bedding, you should go for the design that best matches the interior of your bedroom. This will go a long way in improving your apartment.
