If you are looking for something to make a portion of a room or a certain accomplishment or award really stand out, here are some accent wall ideas. An accent wall is traditionally a wall that’s painted a separate color from the rest of the walls in the room, which are otherwise all uniform in color. There are many purposes for an accent wall; here are some things to make yours stand out and make a statement.

1. Shading and Color Creativity

If you have a favorite color, try using a pastel shade of that color on three of your walls, then use a bold shade of the color as your accent wall. Then, place something that means a lot to you upon the accent wall. It could be a complimentary or contrasting colored frame, or it could be an unframed poster that has similar colors throughout.

2. Award Displays in the Home

Place a framed diploma, marriage certificate or other important document at eye level in the center of your accent wall. There are many types of awards that you may display. For example, actors who have worked for years to gain union status may even have an accent wall in their apartment office that draws attention to that welcome letter from the Screen Actors Guild. Most professions have similar honors and rites of passage. If you’ve won an award or acknowledgment that you’re proud of and worked hard to obtain.

3. Letting the Wall Speak for Itself

Another great idea for an accent wall is to choose your very favorite color in the world for it. Then, leave the wall completely free of clutter, frames or displays of any kind. Indulging in an accent wall that is simply a loved color may give the room a sense of serenity and make you feel free in your other decorating pursuits. Don’t feel pressured to make your accent wall anything else than what you want it to be.

4. Portrait Portrayal

One of the best uses for an accent wall is to display a favorite portrait. A couple may opt to have a huge print made of their favorite wedding photograph, or a proud parent may choose to display a portrait of their children. Choose the color of the accent wall to match a striking or predominant color within the portrait, and double check so that the exact color is determined. Then, the accent wall itself will bring out the beauty of the portrait and help make sure that it’s the thing visitors most remember from a visit to your apartment home.

5. Collage on an Accent Wall

Consider making a college on part of the accent wall. A college made directly on a wall has a distinct homey feel, as it indicates that you are setting down roots in your apartment home, creating unique wall art that can’t be taken elsewhere. You may choose a theme before painting the accent wall, so that it can be perfectly complemented by your collage. Popular themes include music, the performing arts, memories and images from magazines.
