There are so many people out there (like yourself) that don’t have fireplaces in their apartments. In some cases, this isn’t a big deal, especially if you live in a place where it’s basically hot all year round. So, here comes the issue… Where will you hang up your stockings for the holidays this year?
Well, don’t worry about a thing! We’ve got your back. We’ve come up with a super creative list of ideas for you to hang up stockings even if your apartment doesn’t have a fireplace!
1. A Room Divider
This is a great alternative to hanging your stockings on a traditional fireplace mantel. Take a paper clip or tie a string around the hook of your stocking and just tie or clip onto a rung or edge of your room divider. And as a bonus, you can hang each stocking at a different height, so your roommate or family members can easily reach to slip their stocking stuffer gifts for you into your stockings. What an awesome way to get into the holiday spirit, huh?
2. The Staircase
This is definitely one of our favorites! We love the fireplace for stockings, but why not kick it up a notch and hang your stockings up along your stairway? Add some garland, mistletoe, and other festive decor to really bring in the holiday spirit. Plus, if you’re a family with children, you can arrange the stockings in order of height from the top of the staircase to the bottom; this could be really neat to see how the kids grow over the years.
3. Windows or Walls
Windows and walls are great for almost any decorations, and now, they’re awesome for your stockings to hang on too. Now, windows are a little tricky. You can easily tack or tape your stockings along the top frame of your window. Or, if you really want to get creative, you can actually use double stick tape to cover an entire side of your stocking to hang on your window as a makeshift decal! Add some lights and you’ve got an even better situation right there. The same goes for walls. Have all the roommates or family members get sturdy push-pins to hang stockings along with other Christmas decor on the walls.
Another simple fix: hooks. Look around your home for locations that are opportunistic and wouldn’t be expensively ruined by hooks, and use them! Of course, there are plastic hooks that have a strong adhesive backing to them, so you don’t even have to pull out the power tools and hammers to nail them into the wall! You can also hang them over the same type of door hooks that you may be using to hang wreaths.
Make use of all that wonderful furniture that just sits in your apartment all year long! Give these pieces a reason for the season! Scatter your stockings anywhere and everywhere — on coffee tables that raise high off the ground, on the edge of an office desk, off of a countertop bar — the possibilities are endless!
6. A Ladder
You don’t need to get your construction ladder out for this (though that would actually be a super creative and fun idea). Do your kiddos have a ladder between their bunk beds? Do you happen to have a cute loft ladder somewhere? Tie a string around the loops of your stockings and wrap them around the rungs or sides of your ladder. If you’ve got two kids, use each side of the ladder as a way to display which child’s gif is on each side of the ladder.
7. Decorative Pillows
Who says you have to hang up your stockings? Why not have them sit nice and plump full of gifts on your chaise, lounge chair and/or sofa nooks? It’s definitely festive and can be quite aesthetically pleasing as your guests pass on by.
Do you have some extra space on your holiday tree to hang up your stockings? That might be a viable option. Get smaller stockings if you have a lot of them to hang up — as opposed to going for giant stockings that will pull down and possibly even break your tree’s branches. If there’s no room for stockings on your tree inside, take them outside to hang on the branches of trees, shrubs and what not! It’s a fun and easy way to get festive!
9. A DIY Mantle
OK, so this one is actually going to require you to whip out the power tools and make some magic happen. Find some re-purposed wood or purchase some lumber at your local depot. A few nails and a hammer may also just do the trick! Hang your mantle wherever you feel your stockings would look and fit best. Oh! And, don’t forget to make the area more beautiful with ribbons, lights, and any other festive decor you might fancy.
10. Stocking Holders
Yes, if you’re truly fresh out of spaces and feeling less than creative, you can buy metal stocking holders made specifically for… well, we think you catch our drift! Do some online shopping to find the perfect stocking holder for your apartment.
