Using Apartment Moving Kits to Consolidate Your Hunt for Supplies

Staff Writer · Nov 2, 2009

Apartment moving kits are convenient if you don’t have the time to hunt for supplies. It will cost more than finding the supplies yourself, but if your budget allows for it, you can save an incredible amount of time and energy. Apartment movers and online dealers sell moving kits for every room in your apartment.

Quality

One benefit to buying moving kits is the quality of the boxes. When you get used boxes free or cheap, you don’t get high quality boxes in most cases. If that’s a concern, buying a moving kit might be the way to go. The cardboard boxes in kits are brand new, which is why you’ll be paying more if you go with this option. If you’re moving into your first apartment and don’t know how to tell the difference between a quality box and a non-quality moving box, then you might want to buy a moving kit to eliminate the guesswork. You can also save the boxes for future moves.

Supplies

You have to factor in the cost of supplies when it comes to moving. Apartment moving kits make it easy for you by assembling typical moving supplies that you’ll need for each room. These include:

  • Bubble wrap
  • Packing paper
  • Packing tape
  • Markers
  • Utility knives

The boxes in many kits will have a label on the side that will allow you to list what’s in the box. This is very helpful when you get to your new apartment, because you don’t have to unpack all of your boxes to find things. Simply refer to the labels and you can search for things a lot quicker.

Online Kits

You can find moving kits online for sale on various websites. These websites offer packages depending on how many rooms you’re moving. You can find kits for just one room all the way up to ten rooms. There are also special kits available, such as wardrobe kits. These are large rectangular boxes with bars installed to hang up your clothes

If you’re renting a truck to move yourself, you should check the moving truck’s website to see whether they offer apartment moving kits. You might be able to get a deal because you’re also renting a truck. You could also examine and pick up the supplies in person, which will save you shipping costs. Keep in mind, though, that many online stores that sell moving kits offer free shipping.

Special Orders

You might need to order special sized boxes to move unique items. Apartment moving kits don’t have to come “as is”. Some companies will allow you to build your own moving kits, depending on your needs. For example, you may not need as many large boxes and could use many smaller boxes instead. If you were locked into a moving kit that was pre-made, you would end up with boxes you can’t use – which would be a waste of money. You can avoid this by only requesting the boxes you want.

Using apartment moving kits can help to make your transition into a new place a smooth one. You pay a bit more than you would shopping around for supplies yourself, but it’s one less task you have to complete.
