Portable moving containers are the latest craze in moving and storage, but it is important to fully understand them to make sure getting a portable moving container is the best solution for your storage or moving needs.
Storage Pods for Storage Space
Storage pods can provide a great amount of storage space. They range in size, much like traditional storage yard storage spaces. For example, one company offers a 7 foot pod, a 12 foot pod and a sixteen foot pod. The pod is delivered to you on demand, and you can have it for your use for any length of time. You can utilize the pod simply for storage of your belongings that no longer fit in the attic or the garage, even if you are not moving.
The benefit of using a pod for storage as opposed to using a storage facility is convenience to get your belongings. For example, you may decide to use the storage container for your home improvement tools that you don’t use on a regular basis, but are taking up too much room in your garage. Perhaps, you have decided to convert your garage or attic into a bedroom or playroom. A storage pod can provide you with that replacement storage space that you need, while still remaining on your property. You can take things out, and put things in as often as you like. You may also feel better about the security of your belongings being stored right outside your window, rather than a town or two over.
Storage Pods for Moving
Storage pods are great for moving as well. You can take as long as you want to pack, and as long as you want to unpack. And the best part is, when you are ready to move, the container company will come to pick up the storage or moving containers you have filled, and move them for you. So, if you have sold your house, but have a long ways to go until closing, you may find it easier to pack up your belongings gradually, rather than the week before closing. Or, if you have a loved one who has passed away, or moved to a nursing home, and you are selling their home, a moving container can be a great way to clean out their living space without having to constantly shuffle back and forth to your home.
When a Portable Moving Container Is Not for You
A portable moving container may not be the right choice for you if you don’t have anywhere to put it. For example, if you rent an apartment in an apartment building or complex, there really isn’t anywhere for you to put the container, unless your landlord allows you to use your parking spot. Also, if you are storing items that you do not need access to, it may be more economical and easier for you to use a storage yard facility. For example, if you are storing baby clothes with no plans for a new baby anytime soon, a traditional storage facility works just fine. Finally, moving containers are not for those that hate to pack. If you want to hire a moving company to pack for you, then portable containers are not the way to go.
Figure out what your moving and storage needs are, check out the prices, and then make an educated decision.
