How to Decorate with Dried Flowers

Staff Writer · Jan 20, 2011

Decorating with dried flowers is a time-honored tradition. Although a mainstay of country homes and elegant manors, your apartment can be beautified with some carefully placed dried flowers. Pick flowers that match the color scheme of your apartment, or opt for your very favorites. Even better, you may preserve a thoughtful or romantic gift of flowers forever by drying them and decorating with them.

Collage Decor

You may opt to decorate with dried flowers by placing them in a collage of relevant things. For example, if your husband gave you the flowers or they were used in your wedding, you may opt to use the dried flowers in a college that tells the story and message of your love for one another. A wedding collage is an unusual, more casual way for a couple to show off their special day in an apartment, and using dried flowers in such a display will make it more elegant and beautiful, as well as more special, since the flowers were used in that special moment in time of your lives together. It’s a great way to preserve the past and gift the present with something pretty and one of a kind.

Invoking Scents and Sights

When buying essential oils or other sorts of air fresheners for your apartment, make sure to pick out some of  your favorite floral scents. Then, when placing the scent in the room, also decorate with placing dried flower displays of the precise flowers that the scent is meant to invoke. Although you may not be able to consistently have the treat of fresh flowers, you can enjoy the sensory experiencing of smelling them and seeing the dried version matched with your decor. Hang dried flowers on the wall by the source of the scent, or sit them along a dresser. You may opt to frame a dried bouquet as an artistic remembrance. Leave your dried flowers of choice scattered along the top of a dresser for a more lived-in, relaxed look.

Deck the Halls

A great decoration for hallways or on the front door to your apartment is a wreath. It can be a strong statement of who you are what your home is all about, that visitors may see before even stepping foot in your door. The visual that visitors have while waiting for you to answer the door may mean a lot to their overall impression of your home, and a dried flower wreath can be beautiful.

A wreath of dried flowers may provoke many sorts of feelings, depending on how you create the wreath. For a cheery display, start with a wreath base of white or a pastel color, one that matches your color of choice. If you want to make a wreath of dried pink roses, keep things light. If you want something more dramatic, such as a Halloween wreath, you may choose a black base, then decorate it with dried orange gerberas or orange alstroemeria. Dried flowers can be woven all through a wreath for a beautiful and subtle display.
