How a Schedule Can Keep Your Apartment Clean

Some people have a knack for keeping their apartment clean. While each person manages their home a little differently, you can improve your room’s regular tidiness by organizing a cleaning routine. The best way to do this is to create a cleaning schedule.

Cleaning Goals

Generally speaking, your goal is to keep your apartment clean, although you may also want to keep it tidy. Before creating your schedule, consider your personal style and how much time you can devote to cleaning. For a more laid back approach, a general schedule will do. If you’re a clean freak, then more detailed planning is in order. The purpose of your schedule is to break cleaning chores into smaller chunks, done on a regular basis, so that you can easily clean an entire apartment without allocating enormous amounts of time per session.

Planning

After establishing your goals, do some planning to achieve them. Start by dividing your apartment into rooms, noting if any have similar cleaning tasks. Consider which rooms are most important in terms of cleanliness, since you will focus on those areas. Rooms where you don’t entertain, or where cleanliness is less critical, can be made a second priority.

To make your schedule run smoothly, consider in advance what tools and cleaning products you’ll need to work efficiently. Investing in the proper cleaning tools saves time. Identifying products which clean to your satisfaction is also important. The right combination of tools and products requires trial and error, but once found, you’ll be able to clean satisfactorily in the least amount of time.

Creating a Cleaning Schedule

Depending on your desired level of cleanliness, create either a daily or weekly schedule. A weekly schedule addresses each room in your apartment, on a weekly basis, without considering ignored rooms in between cleaning days. A daily schedule takes into consideration how every room looks on a daily basis. For example, instead of cleaning your kitchen once per week, you might use a daily schedule to include washing dishes and cleaning countertops. The same method can be applied to other rooms, such as the bathroom, where you may decide to clean the mirrors and shower doors each day.

For a weekly schedule, rooms requiring the most work should be scheduled for days when you have the most time to clean. Usually the kitchen and bathroom fall into this category because you must sanitize in addition to removing dirt. Where dusting and vacuuming are the primary tasks, less time is required per room, making those rooms ideal for a quick clean up on a weekday, after work or school. Daily schedules include more small tasks. Setting aside time for these tasks allows you to work cleaning into your normal daily routine.

In addition to your daily or weekly schedule, a periodic deep cleaning will enhance the level of cleanliness. Once per month, consider larger tasks such as washing all window sills and Venetian blinds or scrubbing your kitchen and bathroom floors. By making and adhering to a cleaning schedule, your apartment will always look fresh and clean when company arrives unexpectedly.
