4 Creative Ways Chalkboard Paint Can Help You Organize Your Kitchen

Nancy Burgess · Nov 14, 2011

Decorating is fun, organizing is even more fun and chalkboard paint ties it all together in the kitchen. There are many different options and ideas for using this creative paint. There are walls, cabinets and appliances just waiting to be painted, and then the fun really begins. You can cover an entire wall or create a fun memo board shape to complement your decor. Paint a little or as much as you want using this unique product.

Color doesn’t have to be such a classic, stark, black statement. Chalkboard paint is available in a popular, less dramatic gray color and also in a variety of other custom colors to match your room decor. The traditional black does remain the most common choice.

Wide Mouth Jar Lids and Other Storage Containers

If you want to start small and see how you like the product, this is a fun way to check it out. We all chase random spice jars around the kitchen cabinet, different brands come in assorted size and shape containers. Organize your spices by purchasing small, uniformly shaped mason jar-like containers with screw tops. Paint the top of each jar with chalkboard paint and mark its contents with your trusty piece of chalk. Restack in the cabinet, or even better, line them up in a kitchen drawer so you can easily read the tops of the jars.

Workspace Walls for Memos, Other Walls for Doodling

There are so many great ways to use this paint on walls, big and small. Whether you choose to cover an entire wall or create a memo board effect, here are a few fun and creative ideas. Start with a to do list, jot down the day’s reminders, write an inspirational quote of the day or leave a love note for that special someone to enjoy while they sip their morning coffee.

Those who have true artistic talent can apply chalkboard paint to a wall and create an ever-changing mural to compliment the season or their artistic whim. Paint an entire wall that includes a doorframe to another room and be creative as you draw fun, whimsical characters jumping over the doorframe or a lovely garland or vine design. Have fun with it!

Inside or Outside Cabinet Doors

Use the kitchen cabinets, inside or out, for out-of-the-way memo boards. Hidden reminders can be written on the inside panels: appointments, shopping lists and to do lists. Cabinet contents can be recorded on the outside of each door or drawer panel: mugs, plates, glasses, utensils or paint just one outside door panel for an out-of-the-way memo board.

Appliances

The refrigerator is a perfect pallet for a grocery list, while abbreviated cooking instructions are a perfect match for the oven door. You can spot paint an appliance for whimsical fun or fully cover an older, marred, older appliance.

Be creative with your choices of how and where to use chalkboard paint in the kitchen. It is a fun way to organize the space and update your decor at the same time.
